The Residency Interview Season is upon us and we will be in and out of Bala Cynwyd for the next few months, which means the Sunday morning shiur will suffer as it has the past few weeks. However, no reason Chiddushim must be devoid of Torah. Tashlumin for two weeks ago is this chabura that I gave on Hamapil. Sources are here.

Shiur this week was on the Kriat HaTorah done the night of Simchat Torah. The Kli Yakar on Bamidbar 31:11 suggests that Hakhel occurs on Sukkot because essential to Sukkot is the togetherness of Klal Yisrael. More then on the other Regalim, Sukkot occurs at a time when our individual teshuva no longer works and therefore we must gather. Symbolic of this is the well known mashal of the 4 minim symbolizing 4 different types which have a halachic requirement of coming together. I would suggest that furthermore, financial lines which usually seperate us the rest of the year are removed on Sukkot since everyone must live in a temporary hut no matter how gaudy or meager their actual house is. Yom Tov and Chol Hamoed remove people from their professions which also normally causes a class barrier. Perhaps in the spirit of "Teshvu Ke'Ein Taduru" we can apply this thought back to our daily lives once the Chag ends.
